We are going to French Polynesia!!!

In three days we leave home and head to French Polynesia. A little about this place... this is a group of about 130 Polynesian islands separated into six groups in the South Pacific, with the most popular being Tahiti and The Society Islands. This is where we are going! It is very confusing because these islands are part of France, they are a French overseas collectivity, but still maintain their own government as well for some things. Like I said, confusing! Their currency is not the Euro as in France, but the French Pacific Franc. Some people may call this group of islands simply Tahiti or you may know them individually, especially Bora Bora (think over water bungalows!).  We will be spending our time split on two islands, Moorea and Bora Bora. From Los Angeles, you must fly into Papeete on the main island of Tahiti to access inter island travel. All said and done with flights and layovers, our travel time will be approximately 24 hours.
We are flying from Louisiana to Dallas to Los Angeles to Papeete, Tahiti to the island of Moorea for 5 nights, then on to Bora Bora for 6 nights then back to Tahiti to make our way home on the reverse route.
I haven't used a travel agent in years, but it was a must for this trip! The travel alone is very confusing, much less transfer, reservations etc. with many that do not speak great English. So I used an agent with American Express who is a Tahiti destination expert. I was nervous not planning EVERYTHING myself, but I continued doing research on my travel bible site, Tripadvisor, and gained a wealth of information. The travel agent sent me info on excursions and I put together an itinerary of what I thought we would like to do. i gave her the info and she made ALL of the arrangements. I already knew where I wanted to stay from TripAdvisor. With her knowledge of the hotels and excursions, I truly feel comfortable with my plans.
So now we just have to wait 72 hours and our journey to paradise begins! Stay tuned!

  1. Amazing! I will be following your adventure! I recently saw Bora Bora on a television program last weekend! I was so intrigued I did some research on the French Polynesian islands and some of the resorts with Bungalow's over water. Looks and sounds amazing! Safe travels!
