We walked from our hotel to the ferry stop on the other side of Coronado Island. We took the ferry to San Diego. It was a beautiful ride. We even got to see a naval ship coming to port. All of the sailors were dressed in white and standing at attention on the deck. Very neat!
We walked the harbor area and did the hop on hop off bus tour. We have long ago not worried about being "tourists" because that is exactly what we are! In addition to that especially if you are going somewhere for the first time it gives you a great overview to do a tour.
We got off right at the hotel and ate ate the hotel for lunch overlooking the Pacific. We were going to eat in San Diego, but really thought we should take advantage of the view from the hotel. This is something else I always wonder about. People always tell you to seek out the little hole in the wall restaurants for good food. In my opinion dining is just as much about the experience as it is the food. With a view like we had anything would have tasted better. The food was superb!
Rested and got ready for a sunset sail. I booked through Sailsandiego.com for a private 3 hr sail. By far worth every penny! Especially seeing the tour boats crammed with people. It was very relaxing!
Back at the hotel we ordered room service and watched a movie and yes, we enjoy doing this in hotels. It is relaxing.
Next day, hopped back on the hop-on hop-off bus for the other half of our tour. Old Town, Gaslamp Quarter and so many other things.
We hopped on and off a couple of times, had lunch at the Harbor and the highlight of our afternoon, a bay cruise on the Lord Hornblower. This is a must do. The view was amazing and we went to the Naval Station. Amazing to see all of the HUGE ships in port and got a great history lesson.
way back to the Hotel Del. Nap time for David and shopping time for me! Great boutiques at the Hotel.
That night we ate at the hotel and went to bed.
The next morning we checked out of Hotel Del Coronado and headed for LaJolla. Stopped there to admire the views…
We headed for Delmar with the intentions of having brunch at Jakes, but they weren't open yet and we didn't want to wait because we where going on a whale watching tour. So we trudged on to Dana Point. Had a horrible meal at Harpoon Harry's ( I guess the name says it all) but it was about convienence. We met up with Captain Dav's Whale Watching Tour boat in the same harbor. The views from the boat of the coastline were magnificent. We knew we would probably not see a whale ( not the season) but wanted to go out on the water and we had already been on an amazing whale watching tour in Cape Cod. Great decision because we actually ran or drove through a huge pod of dolphins (about 5-6 thousand!) It was amazing to watch the swim in front of the boat and play over the wake in the back.
By 5 we were exhausted and only a short drive to our hotel in Laguna Beach. We checked into the Montage Laguna Beach and exhaustion started to melt away. It is a beautiful hotel perched on a cliff with fantastic ocean views…
The next day we decided on a spa day and relaxing by the pool. If you book hotels for a view, you should stay put and enjoy the amenities for a while. We did!
Had a wonderful lunch and stayed by the pool. The weather was ideal! We dined at the hotel's upscale restaurant, Studio, for dinner and it was amazing. The view, the food and the service was was magnificent! Happy Anniversary to us!!
The next day we headed to Newport Beach. The drive was beautiful and Newport Beach is a neat seaside town that has many large homes owned by wealthy and celebrities. We did a harbor tour and it was nice!
Above is Tiger Woods' house that was being built during their divorce. Elin reportedly sold it to a friend for $1 (one dollar)!!
That last picture is of John Wayne's yacht or what used to be! We ate lunch at The Cannery overlooking the water. Beautiful! The little boat on the right is called a Duffy boat and you can rent them in the bay. Kind of an electric golf cart on the water.
Went back to hotel and ordered room service and a movie! It had been along day.
On our last day at the Montage, we decided to take a walk around the property and head down to the beach. We pretty much just chilled out the whole day…
Then and now…
We headed back to the hotel and after such a wonderful meal at Studio the night before decided to eat there again…
It was a wonderful week. Hopefully we will be back soon!
